tremolite
n 1: a white or pale green mineral (calcium magnesium silicate)
of the amphibole group used as a form of asbestos

Tremolite \Trem"o*lite\, n. [From Tremola, a valley in the Alps,
where it was discovered.] (Min.)
A white variety of amphibole, or hornblende, occurring in
long, bladelike crystals, and coarsely fibrous masses.
[1913 Webster]

Amphibole \Am"phi*bole\ ([a^]m"f[i^]*b[=o]l), n. [Gr.
'amfi`bolos doubtful, equivocal, fr. 'amfiba`llein to throw
round, to doubt: cf. F. amphibole. Ha["u]y so named the genus
from the great variety of color and composition assumed by
the mineral.] (Min.)
A common mineral embracing many varieties varying in color
and in composition. It occurs in monoclinic crystals; also
massive, generally with fibrous or columnar structure. The
color varies from white to gray, green, brown, and black. It
is a silicate of magnesium and calcium, with usually
aluminium and iron. Some common varieties are {tremolite},
{actinolite}, {asbestus}, {edenite}, {hornblende} (the last
name being also used as a general term for the whole
species). Amphibole is a constituent of many crystalline
rocks, as syenite, diorite, most varieties of trachyte, etc.
See {Hornblende}.
[1913 Webster]

  • Tremolite - Wikipedia
Tremolite forms by metamorphism of sediments rich in dolomite and quartz, and occurs in two distinct forms, crystals and fibers Tremolite forms a series with actinolite and ferro-actinolite
  • Tremolite: Mineral information, data and localities.
Tremolite is an important rock-forming mineral and occurs most commonly as a white to light green, granular to fibrous component of metamorphosed carbonate rocks, especially skarns and dolomite marbles, where the crystals and aggregates can become quite large
  • Tremolite | Physical - Optical Properties, Uses, Occurrence More. . .
Tremolite is known as nephrite jade when it is massive and fine-grained The mineral is abundant and widespread It is the product of both thermal and regional metamorphism and is an indicator of metamorphic grade because it converts to diopside at high temperatures (1,065°F 575°C or above)
  • Tremolite: Meaning, Properties, and Uses - Wisdom Of The Spirit
Tremolite forms in metamorphic rocks, such as marble or schist, under conditions of high heat and pressure It’s often found in contact metamorphic zones where limestone interacts with magnesium-rich fluids
  • Tremolite - Geology is the Way
Tremolite is a common product of contact and regional metamorphism of marbles, where it forms due to decarbonation of dolomite in the presence of quartz or SiO 2 supplied by metasomatic fluids

  • Tremolite - Gems Minerals
Tremolite is a calcium magnesium amphibole mineral best known for its fibrous to prismatic crystal habits and its position at the boundary between classic rock-forming minerals and regulated asbestos species
  • Tremolite - Korhogo Minerals
Tremolite belongs to the amphibole family, a group of double-chain silicate minerals characterized by a complex crystal structure and variable chemical composition Its idealized chemical formula is Ca2 (Mg,Fe)5Si8O22 (OH)2, where magnesium predominates in the pure endmember
  • Tremolite - Encyclopedia
Tremolite most often occurs in masses of fibrous crystals with a vitreous luster, more rarely in distinct crystals with a diamond-shaped section and measuring up to 25 cm, longitudinally striated and often curved White when pure, tremolite is most often gray or greenish, exceptionally pink
